Wednesday's Words - Veggie Tales Nativity
Yesterday my husband and I were flipping through a cooking magazine to find some recipes and because it was a December issue, it was filled with "holiday gift ideas" and other novelties. One of the pages had a picture of the Veggie Tales Nativity Set. Our three year old daughter looked at the picture and turned to us with her nose scrunched up. With a dissapointed sigh she said, "Daddy....Jesus is NOT a carrot."
"And said unto him, Hearest thouwhat these say ? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read , Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?" - Matthew 21:16

October 3rd - Wednesday's Words
At the dinner table our 3 year old began a conversation about who's big, who's bigger, and who is the biggest in our family. "What if Mommy grows bigger than you?" she asked my husband when he claimed his stance as "the biggest". He answered, "Mommy isn't going to grow anymore." She quickly asked the inevitable: "Why not?" He responded with pefect clarity, "Mommies and Daddies don't grow. We already grew up....we're already grown." Recalling the many times we have encouraged her to finish her meal "so that she can grow big and strong", she asked, "Then why do you still eat?"
Why do we still eat? For nourishment, for strength, for comfort......
And as we desire the sincere "milk of the word" (and eventually the meat)...we seek after spiritual nourishment, spiritual strength, and spiritual comfort and encouragement from the Mighty hand that feeds us. When tempted, Jesus answered the devil by saying, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4) When we seek biblical "bread" Mommies and Daddies do grow. We grow wiser.....we grow to be more loving and patient.....we grow in faith as we wait on promises.... we grow to trust the Lord and act in His will.....we grow by asking, seeking, and knocking. And so, if we want to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 3:18)...we must continue to eat....even if we don't get any "bigger".

September 5th - Wednesday's Words
Yesterday, while we were visiting the grandparents, my daughter got out her cousin's magnetic toy train set. She lined up all the cars in a row and rolled it over to the track. I asked her, "How do all of those cars stay together?" She answered, "They stick." and continued to roll them along. "How do they stick?" I asked, ready to see this little science lesson through. "These little sticky things just make them stick." she pointed to the magnets on the front and back of each piece.
My father in law chimed in, asking, "What are those sticky things called?" confident that she knew the answer. She looked at him plainly and shrugged. I thought I would provided clarity and a clue by asking, "Are they called mmmmmaaaaaaaaaagggggggg...????" waiting for the lightbulb to go off in her head. Instead she stared at me with a "it's not very likely, mom, but we'll go with it anyway" look and said, "Maybe." We all burst in to laughter.
God has given clarity to any MAYBE we could conjure up. The answers to every niave pondering are in His Holy Word.
Maybe the universe evolved over millions of years...... "In the begining God created the heaven and the earth." -Genesis 1:1
Maybe there are many ways to God........ "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." -John 14:6
Maybe God only loves some people........ "For God so loved THE WORLD that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." -John 3:16
Maybe God knows we are just doing our best and he will judge according to our effort........ "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. " -John 3:36
Maybe the Bible wasn't really written by God...... "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness. -2 Timothy 3:16
So....when things are unclear....and you start thinking MAYBE a train is held together by a "mmmmmaaaaaaaggggg".....go to the only source of truth available to us: God's Word.

August 29th - Wednesday's Words
Wednesday seems to be that day that can send us in to a panic ("It's ALREADY Wednesday??") or bring discouragement ("It's ONLY Wednesday?") each week. I'd like to try to shine some light on this day of doom by starting a weekly post with words of encouragement, amusement, and inspiration.
This Week's Words:
Since my husband has been working so often the last few weeks, we have grown accustomed to seeing him in his button down "work shirts" 7 days a week (he wears them to church on Sundays too). When he finally had a day off and was dressing for a visit with my grandparents, he came out of the bathroom wearing a polo shirt. Our three year old bombarded him at the doorway, "You gotta be kidding me, Daddy. You're not wearing a work shirt?" she asked with abundant animation. Then she shook her head and walked away mumbling, "Wow. You just gotta' be kidding me." like a little old lady.
Nicodemus (a Pharisee) probably thought to himself: "You've got to be kidding me? Born AGAIN?" when he was caught off guard by Jesus' teaching of salvation:
"Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the
second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily,
verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit,
he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the
flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel
not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." -John 3:4-7
Were you caught off guard by Jesus' teachings? Have you been born again? For more on your personal salvation, read THIS.
